Basic Information
- What is the Kyoto Art Center?
- Kyoto Art Center is a creative, alternative and open center for any living arts. The facility is renovated a Meirin elemetary school which had been treated as a treasure by community. We have 12 studios, 3 alternative presetation spaces, 2 small galleries, some meeting spaces, a library and a café. We support young artists by offering them a space to create their works and hold various training programs for them. Also KAC plans and holds performances, exhibitions, workshops, lectures and so on for public to enjoy arts.
- Do you have any archives about your activities before?
- Yes, some archives are available at the library. Visual archives are also available.
- When is the closed day?

- How much is the entrance fee?
- Generally there is no entrance fee, but we charge for some performances. Check the prices at the event guides.
- Where can I get tickets for such events?
- Tickets are sold at the ticket counter on the 1st floor of the west wing. They are also sold at play guides and on the internet. Ticket selling place changes with the event, so check the event information beforehand.
Access
- How to get to KAC.
- It is a 5-minute walk from Exit 22 and 24 of Shijo Station on the Kyoto Municipal Subway Karasuma Line and Karasuma Station on the Hankyu Kyoto Line. If you are coming from Kyoto Station, take the Karasuma Municipal Subway Line and get off at Shijo Station. By city bus, get off at "Shijo Karasuma" and walk for 5 minutes. - Is there any car parking space for the visitors?
- No car parking there is. If you want to come here by car, use some paying parking lots near here
- Is there any motorbike or bicycle parking space?
- Only inside the north entrance, motorbikes or bicycles can be parked.
- Is it possible to use a wheel chair in the facility?
- Yes, you can use the elevator and the ramps for wheel chair. Also there are two toilets for wheel chair users on the first and second floors in the South Wing. We have some wheel chairs for visitors.※Wheel chair users should better tell us about their visit when they apply for participating in a lecture or workshop.
Facility Information
- Is there any facility such as a gallery and a hall for rent?
- Kyoto Art Center does not offer so-called rental rooms or rental rooms, but Studios, auditoriums, galleries, etc. are selected by public recruitment and screening, and in principle, they are available free of charge.
If you would like to engage in creative activities in Studio, please refer to the Production Support Project, and if you wish to perform and present in an auditorium or free space, please see the Co-program and the > KAC Partnership Program.

- Is it possible to eat and drink in the facility?
- Yes, you can eat and drink at the access path and on the benches located on the ground. The cafe is located on the 1st floor of the South Wing. However, eating and drinking is prohibited in some places such as the library and information corner.*Take your garbage with you.
- Is there any eating facility?
- There is a café on the first floor of the South Building. It can be used for a wide range of purposes such as lunch and café use.075-221-2224

Regular holiday: No holidays (Closed if there is a temporary closure or Kyoto Art Center is closed)
- Is there any nursery room?
- No, there isn’t. However some of our events have a nursery service. Check it at the “Events” page. A space for changing diapers is attached in the toilets for wheel chair users on the 1st and 2nd floors of the South Wing.
- What hours is the library open?
- The library is open from 10:00 to 20:00. It is closed on the off days of KAC as well as on the last day of each month. In case that the last day falls on either Saturday, Sunday or a National Holiday, the week day before the last day of the month will be closed. The materials in the library are not for lent. In addition to the books, the library has video stock and an audio corner. It has also some picture books for children.
- Is it possible to bring my own flyers for display at the information room?
- Yes. In the information corner, leaflets about art and culture are arranged. If you would like to have a shelf, please bring it to the office or mail it. The maximum number of copies per type is 30.* Please note that we cannot accept store business information, content for political or religious solicitation, or content that is offensive to public order and morals.
* Information on events can be posted free of charge on the official website "KYOTO ART BOX" of Kyoto Arts and Culture operated by Kyoto Art Center. Please take advantage of it.
- Is Wi-Fi available at KAC?
- It is available at the lobby, the information room and other places.
Shooting / Visiting
- Is it possible to shoot in the facility?
- If you are visiting the museum for the purpose of taking photographs, please read the "Photography at Kyoto Art Center" PDF / WORD and apply at least one month before the desired date. The application form can be found on the second page of the file. After considering the content, location, and date of shooting, we will contact you to confirm whether or not you will be accepted.* Regardless of whether you are a professional or an amateur, you need to apply for interviews, movie shoots, club photo sessions, personal hobbies, etc.
* If unauthorized shooting is discovered, it will be interrupted on the spot.
* Please contact us at any time for interviews at Kyoto Art Center and photography by users of Studio.
* From December 20, 2022 ~ March 31, 2023, we will stop accepting photography due to building repair work. (Please contact us at any time for interviews about our business and facilities.) )
- Is it possible to see and tour the facility?
- Yes. We have prepared a PDF/Word inspection application form, so please fill in the necessary information before applying. A representative will contact you shortly. (Please note that we may not be able to meet your request due to business reasons.) )
In addition to the common areas, you can freely visit the area without making a special application.

- Is it possible for your staff to visit other places to explain about your activities and facilities?

- How to apply for a job at KAC
- When recruiting staff, we will make an announcement on the news page, so please check it. In addition, interns may be recruited for each business, so please check the event and business announcements.
- Is there any opportunity to work as a volunteer?
- Yes. Kyoto Art Center is looking for volunteers to monitor exhibitions and host various performances. We regularly hold volunteer information sessions, so if you are interested, please visit the volunteer page.
- Do you accept students for museum curator?
- No we don’t. See A1 for internship.
- Would you check my portfolio or project plan?
- If you do not apply for a co-program or production support project, please contact us by e-mail first. * It may take some time to reply. Thank you for your understanding.
